I'm not saying I'd like this to happen, but I do think it is an inevitable direction. And I guarantee Google and Yahoo! and Microsoft are all considering possibilities, as are mobile phone companies and developers.

I really like the Wikitude AR Travel Guide example on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augmented_reality) developed on the Google Android platform. This is using AR to truly augment reality, as opposed to diminishing it.

Does ubicomp stand for ubiquitous computing? Tell me more about this community.

Creative thinking, but this gets a *huge* "no thanks" from me.

The purpose of augmented reality and situated computing systems cannot be allowed to trend towards more advertising platforms. That would be a tragedy. I think ideas in this vein are misguided.

Jason, you should start connecting and hanging out with the local ubicomp community more, your creativity would be hugely welcomed. We should talk soon !
