Some weeks ago, a white, symetrical pair of wings appeared at the base of my ‘baby’ fingernail. This strange tattoo, this irregular mineral deposit, felt imbued with inexplicable mysticism. They were angel wings, i thought, bearing great news. A downy cherubic clock, a countdown to my first baby’s birth.
I catalogued the ascending progression of the Mark from about 30 weeks into the pregnancy. There are roughly 2.5 weeks before Baby is due, and look how close the wings have come to the tip of the nail! It is my prediction, and call me crazy, that the moment the wings crest, touch the white surface, D. will go into labour. I’ll keep you posted.

Five and a half years later, and suddenly there is a spike in traffic for this post. Today is Friday, July 13th, 2007, and there have been over 33 views on this article today. I haven’t figured out what is driving the traffic, other than searches on Google for “angel wings tattoo”. Interesting.
Update: Madeleine wasn’t born until the ‘Wings’ had completely worked their way through the nail, which took an extra 10 days or so. Consequently, Madeleine was born 10 days past her due date. Strange but true.
this is an amazing story
what a great experience…
I got here by doing a google image search for “fingernail”. It was on the first three pages, I forget exactly which.

I have the same marks in two fingers, but they’re not like wings exactly, they seem to be only white marks. I love your story, it’s amazing!
wow thats an amazing story. i was actually just looking for angel wings to set up a monogram blue-print and came across your finger. i read your story and was fasinated and had never heard of anything like it before. mabey it was a sign that your baby would be protected, safe, and healthy. who knows.
